Let's talk the advantages and diadvantages about iPad

Image DetailSo far I have not felt a 'need' to own a iPad as it will be just be 'more stuff' I have to upgrade and maintain. How has it benefited YOU over what a laptop already provides? Let's talk  the advantages and diadvantages about iPad.

Advantages:
1、more portable
2、more fast as it has sorta mobile version of the Internet
3、more screen realestate that an iPhone or iPod touch
4、cool apps just for ipad.
And the list goes on but I want to try and keep this relitively short.Time is real factor for the success of iPad or you may say iPad is the first tablet or Netbook like device which is successful. Many professionals are using iPad for their work. News, that a lawyer took out iPad for some reference, was floting around last month. 1 in every 4 doctors are either using or will be buying shortly.

Disadvantages:
1、no flash
2、no USB
3、no upgrade memory
4、a bit more money
Apple’s mobile devices do come up seriously lacking is connectivity. Just like on previous iPads, the iPad 3 only has a single output, Apple’s proprietary 30-pin data and charging port. There’s no HDMI video output, no microSD card slot for expanding memory or reading a card with photos from your camera, and USB port for connecting peripherals or memory sticks. Admittedly most of these things can be achieved using adapters, but these are expensive separate purchases, and they’re extras you need to carry around and remember to bring.

It maybe many other disadvantages about iPad,we can continue to find them!

Former iPhone engineers hired by Zuckerberg

 facebook-phone-mockup
Rumors of a Facebook phone show no sign of abating, with the latest reports suggesting former Apple engineers who worked on the iPhone have been hired by Mark Zuckerberg to help build the device.

The New York Times’ Nick Bilton said his sources – who spoke on condition of anonymity – told him the company is hoping to launch its mobile phone “by next year.”

Bilton said in his report that Facebook had already hired “more than half a dozen Apple software and hardware engineers who worked on the iPhone, and one who worked on the iPad.”

While Facebook refused to offer any fresh comment on the latest reports surrounding the possibility of it entering the mobile phone market, it told the NYT that last year’s comments made to AllThngsD still stand: “We’re working across the entire mobile industry; with operators, hardware manufacturers, OS providers, and application developers,” the company said then.

Talk of a Facebook phone has been around for a couple of years, but it seems the rumor mill is in overdrive just now. Only last week news appeared that the social networking giant was also looking at buying the firm behind the Opera browser, a browser which could feasibly form part of a Facebook mobile OS. According to TheNextWeb, Opera bosses were “talking to potential buyers right now,” adding that there is currently a hiring freeze at the company, “a surefire sign that something big is about to happen – or at least that Opera wants something big to happen.”

Now that Facebook has shareholders to answer to, it must find ways to make money. Serious money. According to one Facebook employee who spoke to the NYT’s Bilton, Zuckerberg is concerned that if he doesn’t launch a mobile phone soon, “Facebook will simply become an app on other mobile platforms.”

Of course, launching a phone may prove to be the easiest part of the whole process. Getting people to actually buy it will be the real challenge, especially in a crowded market already dominated by Apple’s iPhone and Samsung’s Android-powered devices. Done right, however, and it could prove to be a lucrative money spinner for Zuckerberg and his team.

The diffrences between new iPad and iPad 2

The main differences between the iPad 2 and New iPad is that the NewiPad has a Retina Display (high definition) screen and a 5 megapixelcamera on the back, and the iPad 2 has a standard quality screen and a VGA camera on the back, which isn't even 1 megapixel. So if you're planning on taking professional looking pictures (and if you want a higher def screen), get the newer one.

Retina display
The Retina display looks gorgeous. The screen has a 264 pixels per inch. That's a total 3.1 million pixels in a full color IPS screen. The image color seems a lot better too. They say it has 44 percent more saturation than the IPS technology they were using previously.

Apple claims that it is still a Retina display because, when you held it at a normal distance, you just can't see the pixels. That distance is 15 inches. For the iPhone, which has a smaller screen, it is 10 inches. I can't wait to test this thing with all my comics (I wonder if Marvel will have to upload them all again).

They demonstrated it running a new version of Autodesk Sketchbook Ink, a new painting app that is vector-based and resolution independent. It actually seems like you are painting on a real page.

Processor and graphics power
The processor is an Apple-designed A5X, which includes a quad-core graphics module. It's going to need all the graphics muscle if it has to push those 3.1 million pixels.According to Apple, it's twice as fast as a Tegra 3 and has "four times" the graphics performance. Hot damn.

1080p video recording
The rear camera, which Apple calls the iSight Camera (the front-facing one is the facetime camera), is capable of capturing 1080p video at 30 frames per second, which obviously looks razor sharp on the iPad's display. The video, like the iPhone 4S, is also stabilized.

Apple says it has temporal noise reduction, which is a rather clever technique that greatly reduces the noise of video by comparing what pixels actually move and guessing what is noise and what is actual detail.

New camera
The new iPad has a new camera on the back: has a 5-megapixel job with a side-iluminated sensor, a 5-element lens and an infrared filter. It's basically the same configuration as on the iPhone 4S, with three fewer megapixels. Serious specs for a tablet camera—you can expect to see more people carrying around iPads taking pictures of things. And Apple also left the VGA FaceTime camera in the front. Great.

New iPad Users Now Equal to Original iPad Ownership

This week the newest Apple iPad, just two months after going on sale, managed to gain the same user base as the original iPad, Localytics reported May 24. Based on “apps using Localytics for apps analytics,” the company says that which shall not be called the iPad 3 is now at 20 percent, just like the original.

Users of the iPad 2, the most popular version to date, represent 60 percent of the iPad user base.“Prepare for another WWDC [Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference] with good Apple sales news … the new third-generation iPad this week caught the original, becoming the second most widely used of Apple’s family of tablets,” Localytics blogged. “After selling over 3 million devices and grabbing 14 percent of the U.S. iPad market in the first four days of availability, the updated iPad has continued to sell extremely well.”

The third-gen iPad’s biggest selling point is its Retina display, which has 2 million more pixels than a high-definition television. The Wall Street Journal’s Walter Mossberg called it the “most spectacular” display he’d ever seen on a device, adding that it was “like getting a new eyeglasses prescription—you suddenly realize what you thought looked sharp before wasn’t nearly as sharp as it could be.”

Apple also updated the iPad’s camera, replacing a sub-1-megapixel model with a 5-megapixel model and complementary software that can do right where shaky hands go wrong. Apple additionally gave it a speedier processor and optional 4G Long-Term Evolution (LTE) connectivity on the AT&T or Verizon Wireless networks.
While the newest iPad’s “swift overtaking” of the original is impressive, writes Localytics, “it has a long way to go to leapfrog the iPad 2, which is still in 16GB capacity for $100 less than the third-generation iPad’s basic model.”
During the first quarter of 2012, Apple reasserted its dominance in the tablet space, continuing to put up strong numbers while competitors such as Amazon—which enjoyed strong Kindle Fire sales following the tablet’s late-November introduction—generally saw numbers drop off from their fourth-quarter highs.
Apple shipped 11.8 million iPads during the first quarter, compared with 15.4 million during the fourth, helping to boost its market share to 68 percent, as Amazon’s fell from nearly 17 percent to just over 4 percent.

With Amazon’s fall, Samsung moved into the No. 2 spot, Lenovo jumped behind Amazon into the fourth spot and Barnes & Noble, with its Nook, took up the fifth position.

"It seems some of the mainstream Android vendors are finally beginning to grasp a fact that Amazon, B&N and Pandigital figured out early on: Namely, to compete in the media tablet market with Apple, they must offer their products at notably lower price points," Tom Mainelli, IDC research director, said in a statement.
"We expect a new, larger-screened device from Amazon at a typically aggressive price point, and Google will enter the market with an inexpensive, co-branded ASUS tablet designed to compete directly on price with Amazon's Kindle Fire. The search giant's new tablet will run a pure version of Android, whereas the Fire runs Amazon's own forked version of the OS that cuts Google out of the picture."
According to analysts with IHS iSuppli, Localytics may soon enough have another iPad to track. In time for the holiday shopping season, IHS expects Apple to introduce another new iPad, this one with a 7.85-inch XGA display.

“Apple has yet to confirm that such a product will be part of its product strategy,” IHS reported in early March, “but suppliers anticipate its release in the fourth quarter.”

Apple designer 'winces' over some past product choices

Sir Jonathan Ive holds his Knight Commander medal following a ceremony at Buckingham Palace, on May 23, 2012 in London.Though Ive appears with relative frequency in news articles and documentaries, interest in his design philosophy has never let up. Perhaps that is because Ive has always spoken in an abstract, philosophical sense about the way he approaches design, which only seems to perpetuate the mystery surrounding one of Apple's core talents.

In an extensive two-part interview published in UK newspaper The Telegraph on Wednesday, Ive discussed some of his product approaches as well as his attitudes toward design failures, Apple's performance under newly minted CEO Tim Cook, and more.

The interview itself is worth reading, but we took interest in a few highlights from throughout his discussion with The Telegraph. Among them:-- Contrary to popular belief, Ive says the iPad 2's design was not inspired by the making of a samurai sword. Rumor after the iPad 2's launch in 2011 was that Ive had traveled to Japan to watch the process of creating such a sword, which then translated to the "razor edge" of the iPad 2, but Ive insists this is just lore.

Don't like the stitched leather UI on a number of Apple's iOS and Lion applications, like Find My Friends, Maps, and iCal? It seems that Ive doesn't either -- The Telegraph claims Ive "winced" when asked about the stitched leather, but gave a diplomatic response: "My focus is very much working with the other teams on the product ideas and then developing the hardware and so that's our focus and that's our responsibility. In terms of those elements you're talking about, I'm not really connected to that."

iPhone 5 Will Be 'Completely Redesigned,' Resemble iPad: Analysts

A “completely redesigned” Apple iPhone 5 will arrive in October, according to analysts with Piper Jaffray. There have been a lot of conflicting reports about when the new iPhone would arrive but the analysts are “confident,” in their time frame, according to the May 21 research note.
Jefferies analysts also released an Apple-related note May 21, and together the two reports offer a picture of what’s to come from Apple and what’s likely to be phased out.
The launch of the iPhone 5—as the newest model is expected to be called—will represent the biggest product launch of the year, as well as the biggest device upgrade cycle “in smartphone history,” wrote Piper Jaffray analysts Gene Munster and Douglas J. Clinton.
More specifically, Munster and Clinton added:
We believe the iPhone 5 will have a completely redesigned body style, which may more closely resemble the metallic rear panel of the current iPad. We believe there is a 50 percent chance the new phone has a slightly larger 4-plus-inch screen. We believe larger screen size is one of the few areas in which Android devices have been able to compete.
The iPhone 5 will also, they added, include 4G Long-Term Evolution (LTE) technology, an upgraded processor and memory, and a higher-megapixel camera.
While inventories of 28-nanometer chips are limited, Munster and Clinton expect Apple will receive “favorable treatment” and receive access to what’s available, likely selling 49 million units in the December quarter. However, should parts supplies delay the smartphone, the analysts expect Apple fans, unswayed, will wait out the delay.
“We believe it would be unlikely that a consumer would choose to buy another phone if they are unable to get an iPhone 5 due to short-term supply constraints, given past launches with limited supply,” according to the Piper Jaffray report.
The iPhone 3GS, meanwhile, will be discounted and pitched to a new fan base.
“We believe Apple has signed an agreement with a leading distribution and logistics company [that has been] tasked with penetrating the prepaid markets around the world as well as expanding channels for the iPhone 3GS in the developing world,” wrote analysts with investment firm Jefferies.
This would help to plug a revenue hole while consumers twiddle their thumbs into October or possibly beyond.
Presumably for the U.S. market, they add that Apple is in the process of repricing the 3GS so that it can be purchased with no subsidy for around the $200 price that the iPhone 4 sells for with a contract.
Apple is additionally expected to soon debut its new Apple TV. Speaking at a Fast Company event this month, Apple board member and J. Crew CEO Mickey Drexler said Apple will “deal with the living room in the near future.”
Likely unendearing himself to the Apple core team further, Drexler added that he didn’t envy Apple CEO Tim Cook.
“The best job to have is to take over a company that’s doing poorly,” he said candidly. “Never take over a company that’s doing great!”

Apple scrubs dirty iCloud data centre with second solar wash 2012 clean date stated

Apple is flying the green flag on the North Carolina data centre that will power iCloud – the very same one that was slammed by Greenpeace for being dirty.
The iPad shop has disclosed information on a second solar-power generation facility at the data centre in Maiden, North Carolina, while also launching  a new page to explain its plans for its consumption of renewable energy.

Apple is building two solar array installations at the billion-dollar site. When it first detailed Maiden in February, the fondleslab-maker spoke of just one.

The "new" renewable energy page says there will be two high-efficiency solar cells with solar tracking systems on separate 100-acre sites at Maiden, along with biogas-powered fuel cells. The companies supplying the solar systems to both sites are SunPower and start-up Bloom Energy.

The renewable energy page states Maiden will be powered using nothing but renewable sources of electricity by the end of 2012. Apple has not given an actual date for when Maiden will be completed.

Otherwise, the site repackages Apple’s response to the Greenpeace report last month that criticised Maiden for consuming watts generated using coal- and nuclear-fired power stations owned by the local power utility.

Apple’s site restates its earlier claim that 60 per cent of the power at the Maiden site would be generated using renewable sources.

The site seems a more measured and coordinated response beyond the simple PR statement Apple produced after the Greenpeace report was first released.

Apple's main data center to go fully renewable this year

Apple said it plans to make its Maiden, N.C., data center run entirely off renewable energy by the end of the year.
The company said it's building two solar array installations in the area, which when combined will bring in 84 million kilowatt-hours of power annually. Apple is also at work on its bio-gas fuel cell installation, set to be completed later this year.
All told, Apple says it will produce 60 percent of the power it requires to run the data center on site, procuring the other 40 percent from "local and regional sources" that are renewable.
Facilities like the one in Maiden power Apple's growing cloud services effort. Last June the company introduced iCloud, its storage and sync service, which relies on the data centers to store user data and information. The data centers also play a role in powering Siri, the voice assistant feature for the iPhone 4S.
Apple posted information about its plans in a new section of its environmental Web site today. In an interview with Reuters, Apple Chief Financial Officer Peter Oppenheimer noted that the two solar farms would be twice as large as the company had originally let on. A proposal that surfaced earlier today noted that the farm across the street from the data center was given regulatory approval by the North Carolina Utilities Commission.

The new information comes on the heels of a demonstration against Apple by Greenpeace. Earlier this week, the environmental activist group set up a portable building at Apple's headquarters in Cupertino, Calif., as well as projecting messages onto the company's glass entryway. Both were the latest part of the group's Clean Our Cloud campaign, which pressures tech companies like Apple, Microsoft, and Amazon to use less dirty energy to power their data centers.
The Maiden facility will be the latest used by the company to run entirely off renewable energy, Apple said. The company's operations centers in Austin, Texas; Sacramento, Calif.; and Cork, Ireland, as well as a facility in Munich, Germany, already meet that metric. Apple says its upcoming data center in Prineville, Ore., will also run entirely off renewable energy.

iPhone: Apple to boost screen size in next version

The new iPhone screens will measure 4 inches from corner to corner, one source said. That would represent a roughly 30 percent increase in viewing area, assuming Apple keeps other dimensions proportional. Apple has used a 3.5-inch screen since introducing the iPhone in 2007.
Early production of the new screens has begun at three suppliers: Korea's LG Display Co Ltd, Sharp Corp and Japan Display Inc, a Japanese government-brokered merger combining the screen production of three companies.
RELATED: 20 iPhone tricks and tips everyone should know
It is likely all three of the screen suppliers will get production orders from Apple, which could begin as soon as June. That would allow the new iPhone to go into production as soon as August, if the company follows its own precedent in moving from orders for prototypes for key components to launch.
Apple's decision to equip the next iPhone with a larger screen represents part of a competitive response to Samsung Electronics Co Ltd.
Samsung unveiled its top-of-the line Galaxy smartphone with a 4.8-inch touch-screen and a faster processor earlier this month.
With consumers becoming more and more comfortable using smartphones for tasks they once performed on laptops, like watching video, other smartphone manufacturers have also moved toward bigger displays.
AESTHETICS AND DESIGN
A likely shakeup in the design of a larger-screen iPhone could go a long way in boosting its "wow" factor, convincing fans to trade in their old iPhones for new ones, said Shaw Wu, an analyst at Sterne Agee.
"Not only do users pay for features, but they also pay for aesthetics and design. That's as important, or more important, than features," Wu said. "People love the current design -- but it's 18 months old."
The latest iPhone 4S was introduced in October of last year and essentially has the same form factor as the iPhone 4, launched in 2010.
Samsung, which this year became the world's largest cell phone maker, sold 45 million smartphones in the first quarter, and sales of the Galaxy phones outstripped the iPhone.
Apple was not immediately available to comment.

Apple’s new iPad rebranded ‘WiFi + Cellular’ in some markets

Apple has changed the branding on its new iPad, dropping the “4G” designation. Instead, the company is calling the updated tablet “WiFi + Cellular,” after facing some criticism that its iPad runs only on what U.S. networks call “4G,” as opposed to what falls under that designation in the rest of the world.
The technology firm even faced a legal challenge from Australia’s consumer watchdog organization, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, over the name. Apple later offered refunds to Australian consumers who felt misled by the labeling, though it argued that it was within its rights to call its iPad a 4G-capable device because of the way it works with U.S. networks.

Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the branding change, but reportedly told the Sydney Morning Herald that it made the change for simplicity. According to the statement, Apple explained that companies “do not all refer to their high-speed networks with the same terminology.”
The name change, first noticed in Apple’s online stores in Australia and Britain, is now up on the U.S. and Canadian online stores. The Australian store, however, has a very explicit disclaimer about what the new iPad can do: “This product supports very fast cellular networks. It is not compatible with current Australian 4G LTE networks and WiMAX networks.”
